Ole Miss has ‘pessimism’ over Trinidad Chambliss eligibility waiver for 2026, per report

Ole Miss is still locked in on the 2025 season, even though it’s technically 2026, and the Rebels still have star quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to try to lead them to the promised land this season.

But Ole Miss doesn’t know if Chambliss will be available to it next fall. According to a report on Sunday night by Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of CBS Sports, “there’s some pessimism at the moment” in Chambliss’s pursuit to be granted one more year of eligibility.

The report also allowed some room for the opposite happening though, with it stating that “a waiver is still being pursued” and that “there’s nothing final yet.”

While a waiver is still being pursued and there’s nothing final yet, there’s some pessimism at the moment that Ole Miss star QB Trinidad Chambliss will ultimately be granted an additional year of eligibility, sources tell me and @chris_hummer pic.twitter.com/BggvwYO9GD

Chambliss stepped in for the injured Austin Simmons earlier this season and helped lift Ole Miss to lofty heights in 2025. He even entered the Heisman Trophy conversation this fall, ultimately finishing 8th, and led the Rebels to a College Football Playoff berth.

That Playoff drive is still going strong, largely thanks to Chambliss, who rallied Ole Miss past Georgia in a quarterfinal thriller on New Year’s Day night in New Orleans. Chambliss threw for 362 yards and 2 touchdowns with 0 interceptions, and he made multiple amazing plays near the end of the game to get the Rebels to the finish line.

It’s that playmaking ability that Ole Miss would love to have from Chambliss for Pete Golding‘s first full season in Oxford. But right now, the 2026 season is in peril for Chambliss at Ole Miss while he tries to make the 2025 season one of the most special in school history.
