Ex-Disney Child Star Says He Was Fired From Universal Studios After Reporting Incident With Suspected Pedophile

A former Even Steven’s star is speaking out with a serious allegation involving his former employer, Universal Studios Hollywood.

Former child actorSteven Anthony Lawrence best known for his role as Bernard “Beans” Aranguren on the Disney Channel series, claimed he was fired from the theme park in Los Angeles after reporting what he described as a disturbing incident involving a “suspected pedophile.”

In an Instagram post shared Saturday, January 3, Lawrence, 35, said his termination came as retaliation following a report he made internally. Alongside a photo of his Universal Studios ID badge, he explained that he had delayed speaking publicly in hopes of resolving the situation privately.

“I delayed posting this for about a month because I was hoping we could find some sort of amicable solution, because I absolutely loved performing and dancing with all you amazing people,” the former Disney alum wrote. “It is with a heavy heart I have to announce that my time with Universal Studios has ended.”

Lawrence went on to allege that a supervisor and a human resources representative made the decision to fire him in response to his report. “My Boss[redacted] and her H.R. representative [redacted] wants to retaliate for reporting a suspected pedofile around children,” Lawrence alleged. “While I will truly miss my job, I cannot be associated with an organization or people that don't care about performer or guest safety while numerous people continue to get hurt,” he added.

The actor did not provide further details about the alleged incident or identify the individual involved. However, he made it clear that he stands by his actions and would not return to the job: “With what I know, I WILL NEVER ALLOW MY KID TO GO TO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD. Be safe, everyone.”

Support quickly followed from fans and former colleagues, with messages like, “You will be missed Bean. The PAs will miss you,” and, “I commend your bravery and integrity” being left in the comments.

However, some people disagreed with Lawrence’s move. “You're so unprofessional it's embarrassing to even be associated with you as a performer,” one person wrote.

Another individual, who appeared to present themselves as someone who worked alongside Lawrence, stated, “Steven, you were the worst to the dressers and PA’s and other performers, you had the worst attitude every single day, seemed like you were on drugs or having a bad come down most days.”

Lawrence rose to fame in the early 2000s during Even Stevens’ three-season run from 2001 to 2003, becoming a memorable part of Disney’s golden era of sitcoms.

Parade has reached out to Universal Studios Hollywood for comment. As of publication, the company has not responded to Lawrence’s claims.
