Alabama came away with an 89-74 win over Kentucky in Tuscaloosa in its SEC opener. But there was concern for several Crimson Tide players due to injuries throughout the game.
The Crimson Tide saw Amari Allen, their fourth-leading scorer, score 11 points in 31 minutes. He had to leave the game due to a sprained ankle but came back. Oats said that the team would take it easy with him leading up to their next game against Vanderbilt on Wednesday.
“He’s going to be real sore for a few days,” Oats said, according to AL.com’s Nick Kelly. “We’ll probably sit him until Vanderbilt, and he’ll be able to go.”
Aiden Sherrell, who was limited to just nine minutes, was forced to leave the game with a knee injury. Oats, though, expressed optimism that the sophomore didn’t sustain any serious damage
“We’re thinking he’s going to be able to play against Vandy,” Oats said. “We wanted to make sure he got more tests on our off day tomorrow before we make a decision on his availability moving forward for next week.”
Alabama is off to a 1-0 start in conference play as it improved to 11-3 overall with the win over the Wildcats. Aden Holloway scored 26 points and added five assists.
The Crimson Tide travel to face Vanderbilt on Wednesday.
