Walt Disney World runDisney Races Set for 2026-2027 Season

Disney theme parks offer a wide variety of experiences for vacation lovers, from thrilling roller coasters to a chance to meet your favorite characters from the brand’s popular movies and television shows. Toss in shows and parades that make you feel like a kid again, delicious food that takes inspiration from all over the world, and one-of-a-kind shopping finds, and there’s truly something for everyone at places like Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

Due to the size of Disney parks, you’re also likely to not just hit your step count for the day when bopping between attractions, but exceed it. For some people, that’s all the justification they need to indulge in an extra Mickey Mouse-shaped pretzel or purchase Disney-themed athletic gear: for others, it’s a challenge, and it’s one that runDisney has capitalized on to great success.

Several times a year, the marathon race providers of The Walt Disney Company put on themed athletic events at Disney parks that allow walkers, joggers, and runners to make their way through the popular theme parks and complete races like 5ks, 10ks, half marathons, full marathons, and even challenges that combine several races, all in a uniquely Disney way that turns vacations into runcations.

(Feb 25, 2024) Thousands of runners participate in the 2024 Disney Princess Half Marathon presented by CORKCICLE, which was the final event of the three-race weekend at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. On January 2, runDisney announced the next slate of races that will take place at Walt Disney World, where leaning into the race themes isn’t mandatory, but extremely encouraged. It is not unusual for participants to dress up in family-friendly costumes paying tribute to their favorite characters and movies: as a previous participant of a runDisney race during Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival, I saw runners dressed up as The Little Mermaid’s Sebastian and Chef Louis, balancing plates with their favorite dishes carefully recreated with felt and modeling clay, and countless runners wearing Mickey ears.

The next Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend will take place on October 22-25, 2026, with Club runDisney registration opening up on February 3, 2026 and general registration opening on February 10, 2026.

There are three big Walt Disney World race weekends in the books for 2027 as well:

The 2027 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend will take place January 6-10, 2027, the 2027 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend will happen February 25-March 1, 2027, and the 2027 runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend will happen April 15-18, 2027. Like the Wine & Dine event, Club runDisney registration opens up before general registration.

    What makes runDisney Races Unique?

While plenty of participants train ahead of time to finish their respective races within a certain time frame, as long as you can complete the race with a minimum of a 16-minute-per-mile pace, whether you walk, jog, or run is up to you. I’ve seen participants using canes and walkers, and there is a robust guide for athletes with disabilities on runDisney’s website that addresses wheelchair access, handcycles, human guides, and service animal participation.

There are meet-and-greet opportunities along the race courses where runners can take pictures with beloved characters, volunteers cheering you on as you go, and local marching bands or DJs provide a high-energy soundtrack along the way– you’ll hear them before you see them!

Kids are encouraged to participate alongside a registered guest 14 years of age or older (different race lengths have different minimum age restrictions for children), so in true Disney fashion, it’s something the whole family can enjoy together.

In addition to dedicated races, there are special events for participants like afterparties, yoga classes, and the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo where participants can pick up their race bibs and shop for essentials like shirts, sneakers, and even magnets that they can use to attach their bibs to their shirts.

How to Make the Most of Your runDisney Race

Disney races take place before the parks open for the day, so be prepared to get up very early in the morning. Disney resorts lean into the race weekend and typically provide special meals for purchase on race days: think things like bagels, bananas, peanut butter, and breakfast bars in convenient to-go containers. A bonus is that runDisney provides shuttle service from many Disney resorts directly to race sites, so some participants opt to stay on property for logistical purposes.

Once you start your race, there are fluid stations where you can get water or sports drinks along the route, but feel free to bring your own water bottle if you’re more comfortable carrying your own. Water and sports drinks are provided at the end of the finish line for participants, and there are also refreshment areas with bananas or other small snacks to tide you over until your next meal.

There are photographers along the race course, and as long as your bib is visible when your picture is snapped, you’ll be able to see all of your photos on the My Disney Experience app, typically within a day or two!
