A teenage suspect who attempted to rob another teen was killed during a shootout that also wounded a second person, Cicero officials said.
The shooting was reported at approximately 3:20 p.m. along South 58th Avenue near 13th Street. Authorities said two teens met for a marketplace sale, but a transaction never took place. While the seller was walking away, he was approached by the other teen, who tried to steal the item, resulting in a struggle.
A relative of the seller’s, who was waiting nearby, exited a vehicle and was shot twice by the apparent robber, police said. The relative, who was armed, told police he returned fire and hit the alleged robber once.
Police stated the family member was hospitalized with injuries and listed in stable condition. The apparent robber later showed up at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound and died, authorities said.
The teenager who died was identified as Angel Dominguez, 16, by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. His cause of death was determined to be a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds, the office said.
An investigation into the shooting remained underway on Thursday.
Following the shooting, Cicero officials reminded resident that the Cicero Police Department is a safe place to conduct marketplace transactions.
