Anaheim First Presbyterian Church is hosting a blood drive on Jan. 8 to start the year right!
According to the Red Cross, “Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.” If you need any motivation beyond saving a life, donors at this drive will be entered into a sweepstakes to win a trip for two to the Super Bowl.
The drive will be set up from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the church’s lobby, 310 W. Broadway. Go to RedcrossBlood.org to schedule an appointment or for more information.
Sunkist Branch gets the year started with fun
The Anaheim Public Library’s Sunkist Branch will host a puzzle party on Jan. 16 in honor of National Puzzle Month.
There will be puzzles, games and giveaways for children 18 and younger from 1 to 2 p.m. The Sunkist Branch is at 901 S. Sunkist in Anaheim.
Also, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 22, the branch will host a Gochugaru spice demonstration and recipe tasting. Register at the front desk to receive a take-home kit featuring a sample of Gochugaru and recipes. The program is for ages 13 and up.
On Jan. 29, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., the staff will offer its first bilingual sorytime. There will be stories, songs, games and crafts, in both English and Spanish, geared toward all.

Anaheim Police Department offers PACE program
The Anaheim Police Department is currently seeking participants and is now accepting applications for its upcoming Public Awareness Through Citizen Education, or P.A.C.E., class.
Students meet on Tuesday nights for a total of 14 weeks. Classes normally begin at 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. and meet at the Anaheim Police Department main headquarters.
This is a serious time commitment of 14 weeks.

Founders’ Park seed library available for residents
Visit the Carriage House at Founders’ Park every first Saturday of each month, from 9 a.m. to noon, and obtain up to six new seed packets from the Seed Library.

Compost and mulch are available to local residents through OC Waste & Recycling.
Supplies can be picked up from the Bee Canyon Greenery at the Frank R. Bowerman Landfill in Irvine, the Capistrano Greenery at the Prima Deschecha Landfill in San Juan Capistrano and the Valencia Greenery at Olinda Alpha Landfill in Brea. Make an appointment at OCLandfills.com/compost to pick some up.
Plan to take a shovel and containers that you can fill on your own.
Enter a science fair
The Orange County Science Fair hosts an annual science and engineering fair for local school children.
Registration is now open for its 71st annual fair coming up in 2026. This is a great activity for all children and youth groups.

Disposing of large bulky items
Starting the new year with a cleanup? If you want to get rid of large items, such as couches, old appliances or electronics, the city of Anaheim provides residents with a free bulky item pickup service.
You may dispose of up to 20 items, three times a year. Make a list of items, call Republic Services at 714-238-3300 and schedule a pickup appointment.
Place items for pickup no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.
