William Clyde Denney age 93 of Brush Creek, died Monday evening, Dec. 29, 2025 at Vanderbilt-Wilson Hospital in Lebanon. Born Dec. 22, 1932, he was the son of the late Hugh Denney and Mattie Bell Luck Denney and was preceded in death by a son, William Davis Denney; son-in-law, Dexter Owen; grandson, David Owen and great grandchild, Traci Owen.
Billy was a 1950 graduate of Watertown High School and a veteran of the US Air Force. He received his bachelor’s degree in math and chemistry from MTSU and was a graduate of the Harvard Business School. Billy was a metallurgist and chemist for Ross Gear and later retired from Illinois Tool Works in 1995. A farmer at heart, he enjoyed his retirement years on the family farm in Brush Creek. Billy was a member of the Watertown First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Ruth Hudson Denney of Brush Creek; his daughter, Judy Owen of Russellville, KY; sons, Jeff Denney (Wendy) of Midland, TX and Tim Denney (Mary) of Brush Creek; grandchildren, Dennis Owen and Paula of Easley, SC, Betsy Waller and Chris of Florence, AL, Mary Beth Owen and Mack of Russellville, KY, Diane Raines and Andy of Cedartown, GA, James Denney and Amanda of Brush Creek, Kelsey Barlow and Cody of Baxter and Haley Brown of Justin, TX; 17 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2026 at Hunter Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Burns and Bro. Don Mathis officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and noon till service time on Friday. Pallbearers, Gerald Lamberson, Mitchell Lea, Joe Thomas, Greg Allison, Sherrill Bennett, Shane McCoy, Jack Forsythe. Interment will follow at Jones Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Nashville Rescue Mission, PO Box 24661, Nashville, TN 37202-4661
