Damascus, Jan. 1 (SANA) Syria’s General Authority for Ports and Customs announced on Thursday a temporary halt to cross-border movement with Lebanon through the Arida border crossing, after rising water levels in the river caused damage to the bridge linking the two sides of the crossing.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the authority said the measure was taken to safeguard public safety and will remain in place until the necessary technical repairs are completed.
The authority added that travelers can continue to enter and exit Syrian territory through the Josiah and Jdaidit Yabws border crossings, which remain operational daily from 6 a.m. until midnight in accordance with approved procedures.
Syria has recently been affected by a highly active polar weather system accompanied by snowfall and heavy rainfall, leading to flooding in several areas and increased river flow, including the al-Nahr al-Kabir al-Janoubi along the Syria–Lebanon border. The conditions have affected nearby infrastructure, prompting service authorities and technical teams to mobilize to address the damage and ensure the safety of citizens and property.
