Chicago will once again ring in the New Year with an epic fireworks display over the Chicago River.
The city’s official event opens at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and will continue through midnight, culminating in the explosive display.
The fireworks display happens along the Chicago River, with fireworks launched from bridges between Orleans and Columbus Streets along the Riverwalk.
The event’s main stage is located at Wacker Drive and Franklin, though the massive fireworks display will be easily visible from any location within the event area.
Big-screen displays along Wacker between Lake and Wells Streets will show the event performances and fireworks display.
NBC Chicago will also have a live feed of the midnight fireworks display over the river available on our website and through the app. (Watch live in the player above)
The event will lead to numerous road closures in Chicago, however.
Franklin Street from Lake Street to Wacker Drive closed starting at 10 a.m. Monday. Then around 10 a.m. Wednesday, Wacker Drive from Lake to Wells and the Orleans Street bridge also closed.
The Chicago River will be closed to boat traffic from Franklin to Columbus from 11:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until 15 minutes after midnight.
