The retailer has already closed dozens of locations, including 42 in the New York City area and nearly half as many across Los Angeles, and intends to focus on its more strongly performing stores in the coming year, along with some refreshed designs.

Starbucks did not provide the specific locations that it plans to shut down, but explained in a statement to WSMV, “Starbucks regularly evaluates our portfolio of coffeehouses to make sure that we are meeting the needs of our customers. Opening and closing stores is a standard part of our business..."
A spokesperson also told CNN that following the closures, attention will be focused on remodeling about ten percent of company-owned storefronts, “featuring refreshed designs and elevated experiences that reflect the Starbucks brand”—involving a reversal from the more recently installed grab-and-go-focused design back to a more welcoming environment with comfy chairs, couches, and power outlets.
