But why wait? Watch With Us has already assembled the three underrated thrillers on Netflix, HBO Max and Prime Video that you need to watch before December ends.
Two of our picks are 21st-century thrillers, while the last one is a true classic in the genre.
16 Must-Watch Thrillers on HBO Max Right Now (December 2025): 'Blood Simple' and More
‘Gone Girl’ (2014)
Gone Girl isn’t a horror movie, but Amy Elliott Dunne (Rosamund Pike) is one of the scariest characters put to film in the last two decades. Through flashbacks, the film reveals just how much she resents her cheating husband, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck), and how far she’s willing to go for payback. In the present, the police are investigating Amy’s murder, and Nick finds himself boxed into a corner by mounting evidence against him.
Tyler Perry gives one of the best performances of his life as Tanner Bolt, a high-profile attorney who represents Nick. Bolt has seen it all, but the scope of this crime is beyond even his ability to predict. Nick’s life is on the line, and his every movement turns the press and the general public against him. In a small town, there’s only so far Nick can run. And now his face is plastered on cable news programs across the country as police make their case against him.
Gone Girl is streaming on HBO Max until January 1.
‘Identity’ (2003)
Identity is a variation on Agatha Christie‘s And Then There Were None, but probably not in the way she would have done it. Instead, director and James Mangold and screenwriter Michael Cooney bring ten strangers to a remote hotel in a violent storm and then begin killing them off one by one in increasingly unlikely ways.
Prime Video Just Added This Classic Thriller — and You Need to Watch It Now
Ex-cop Ed Dakota (John Cusack), correctional officer Samuel Rhodes (Ray Liotta) and Paris Nevada (Amanda Peet) are mystified by the killer’s ability to remain undetected and the reason they’ve been targeted. Each of these people shares something in common that unites them, even though most of them have never met before. Someone wants to make sure there’s only one survivor, and that may cause the strangers to turn on each other before the end.
Identity is streaming on Netflix until January 1.
‘Rear Window’ (1954)
If you love the classics, you’re in for a treat. Alfred Hitchcock‘s Rear Window is available to stream through the end of 2025. The primary cast of this film includes Hollywood legends James Stewart, Grace Kelly and Raymond Burr. Stewart takes the lead as L.B. “Jeff” Jefferies, a photojournalist with a broken leg who is confined to his apartment. While snooping on his neighbors, Jeff becomes convinced that one of his neighbors, Lars Thorwald (Burr), has murdered his wife.
Jeff’s girlfriend, Lisa Fremont (Kelly), is initially skeptical of his claims. But as Lisa comes to believe Jeff’s story, her willingness to put herself in danger might get both of them killed if Jeff’s suspicions are true.
Rear Window is streaming on Prime Video until January 1.
