The co-creator of the hit '00s series, Gilmore Girls, Amy Sherman-Palladino, got candid about the hectic work schedule the show's cast and crew had to go through.
During an October 2025 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sherman-Palladino referenced that Gilmore Girls, which had a seven-season run until 2007, is full of warmth. She clarified, however, that the set had "no cozy vibe at all," because they "were all in a panic constantly." She explained that filming "was very frantic," as they "were shooting 80 pages in eight days, so 10 pages a day with no hiatuses and no breaks" for "22 episodes" per season.
She also recalled feeling that the show's stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, who played Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, were upset with her because of their intense work schedule.
"We had so little time and so little money that by Christmas, when I think we would get a week off, Lauren and Alexis’ eyes were so huge for lack of sleep and from the constant workload that I kind of thought they were going to kill me," said the writer to The Hollywood Reporter.
She also explained that Gilmore Girls was difficult to film because it had "a massive amount of dialogue, with a massive amount of walk and talks without coverage." In addition, she said it was "not a show that could go back and reshoot anything," meaning production was "very high stress all the time."
Lauren Graham & Amy Sherman-Palladino Are Collaborating Again
While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in October 2025, Sherman-Palladino complimented Graham for her work ethic while starring as Lorelai, known for her animated personality and love of pop culture.
"Lauren is so good that my fears of sending a script that wasn’t as good enough was very deep. Lauren would come in to block a scene at 7 in the morning, go to the makeup trailer, and she didn’t know her dialogue for the day; and she would learn 10 pages of dialogue in the time she had hair done," said Sherman-Palladino to the publication. "I don’t know how she did it. I don’t think she’s human because that’s impossible, but she did it. Then she came and performed and acted, and she elevated everything to a crazy level."
In December 2025, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Graham and Sherman-Palladino are co-writing a Gilmore Girls-themed book.
“I’m thrilled to collaborate with Amy to bring readers all our stories of the special years we spent filming Gilmore Girls, the first and second time,” stated Graham, who has penned several books, including Someday, Someday, Maybe and Talking as Fast as I Can.
Sherman-Palladino also said in a statement that she "jump[s] at any chance to collaborate with Lauren Graham."
"On anything. Be it a boozy broads lunch at Joe Allen’s, or writing an actual book, the answer will always be ‘yes.’ I find myself wanting to be permanently linked to her side forever. Not sure it’s healthy, for either of us, but it’s just the reality of the situation," stated the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel creator.
Graham revealed that she wasn't participating in the upcoming Gilmore Girls documentary, Drink Coffee, Talk Fast, in a September 2025 Entertainment Tonight interview. She explained that Sherman-Palladino wasn't involved with the new documentary.
“I don’t do anything the creator of my show isn’t a part of, so, so far, no,” said Graham, who reprised Lorelai in the 2016 Netflix miniseries, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, to the publication.
