Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel el-Wazir, inaugurated a solar power plant in the village of Omar Kaji in the Arta region of Djibouti on Saturday.
The inauguration was attended by Djibouti’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Younes Ali Guedi, and Minister of Infrastructure and Equipment, Hassan Hamad Ibrahim.
Guedi stated that the station is the largest solar power plant completed in rural areas and serves as a living testament to the strength of relations between both countries.
During the inauguration, Wazir expressed his pleasure at participating in this major event, which reflects the deep-rooted ties between Egypt and Djibouti and the sincere political will of both countries’ leaderships to elevate bilateral relations to a more advanced stage of comprehensive partnership.
He added that the station’s inauguration is a tangible realization of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s historic visit to Djibouti in April 2015, which marked a new starting point for cooperation between the two countries – particularly in priority sectors such as energy, infrastructure, industrial development, and the green economy.
The minister explained that this project aligns with Egypt’s unwavering commitment to supporting its African fellows in infrastructure and sustainable development projects through knowledge transfer, capacity building, and the provision of practical and implementable solutions that will directly improve the lives of citizens.
He added that this achievement marks a true starting point for broader cooperation in the fields of new and renewable energy, which we are working to localize in Egypt.
This is a key component of the urgent plan to revitalize Egyptian industry by deepening local manufacturing of clean energy-related industries, thereby supporting the development of sustainable production capacities and promoting reliance on modern, environmentally friendly technologies.
