The suspect charged in a stabbing at a suburban Burr Ridge hotel on Christmas Eve was denied pre-trial release, prosecutors said.
Uberclein Vazquez Villareal, 40, of Missouri, was charged with one count of armed violence, a class X felony and two counts of aggravated battery, a class 3 felony, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release. During a hearing on Saturday, a DuPage County judge granted prosecutors’ motion to detain Vazquez Villareal ahead of trial.
Vazquez Villareal was charged in connection with a stabbing at approximately 2:25 a.m. on Christmas Eve at the Extended Stay America, 15W122 South Frontage Rd. According to prosecutors, officers were initially called about a disturbance and located Vazquez Villareal in a hallway when they arrived.
His hands were covered with blood, authorities said.
Officers then made their way into a hotel room, where they encountered an unresponsive man with multiple stab wounds to the upper chest lying on an inflatable bed, police said. The victim was taken to an area hospital in unknown condition.
Through an investigation, police learned Vazquez Villarreal and two others were sharing a hotel room to celebrate Christmas Eve. At some point during the evening, Vazquez Villareal began harassing the victim as he slept, prosecutors said. Then, when the third person briefly left the room to take a phone call, Vazquez Villareal stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife, authorities said.
Vazquez Villareal’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 20.
