Kate Hudson is setting the record straight about her involvement in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
Some fans have long assumed the actress, 46, made an onscreen cameo in the 1992 Christmas movie as her uncredited role as a “choir singer” is listed as her first acting credit on IMDb. However, Hudson clarified the misunderstanding in an upcoming episode of Entertainment Weekly’s “The Awardist” podcast.
“I’ve [got] those two-cent residuals coming my way,” she quipped before elaborating on her participation in the film.
“I’m not in it,” she said of the scene where a children’s choir sings. “I’m on the soundtrack.”

She added, “I’m just one of the little kids that went to the recording studio and sang.”
Hudson then shared whether she knew if any of the other kids involved in the recording session became famous like her.
“I don’t know,” she confessed. “I was so little. I was like … seven? Seven or eight? Ten?”
Since production on Home Alone 2 spanned from December 1991 to May 1992, Hudson was actually either 12 or 13 when she recorded her vocals for the film. Four years after Home Alone 2 premiered, she made her true acting debut in a 1996 episode of Party of Five, and her big break followed with 2000’s Almost Famous.
Earlier this year, Home Alone 2 director Chris Columbusstruggled to recall Hudson’s role in the film, alluding to her lack of screen time.
“I don’t remember her,” he told Entertainment Tonight in August. “I can’t even remember seeing her on film.”
As for Hudson, she previously reflected on her first Hollywood gig during a February appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“I sang in the chorus of Home Alone 2,” she said at the time. “It was my first professional job.”
She elaborated: “I went in and our chorus sang—there was a chorus there I think on the day, but I was not cast.”
Hudson added of her residuals for the movie: “Every once in a while I’ll get 10 cents.”
Home Alone 2 starred Macaulay Culkin (Kevin McCallister), Joe Pesci (Harry), Daniel Stern (Marv), John Heard (Peter McCallister), Tim Curry (Concierge/Mr. Hector), Brenda Fricker (Pigeon Lady) and Catherine O’Hara (Kate McCallister). The sequel to 1990’s Home Alone followed Kevin as he got separated from his family on vacation and ended up in New York City, where he encountered the Wet Bandits again after their escape from prison.
The choir scene showed Kevin singing a solo in his school’s Christmas pageant as his older brother Buzz (Devin Ratray) embarrassed him by putting battery-operated candles behind his ears. Kevin subsequently shoved Buzz, which caused his brother, their fellow choir members and the nearby stage decorations to fall down in disastrous fashion.
