Vanderbilt point guard Frankie Collins will be out indefinitely after suffering a torn meniscus, according to a report from On3Sports’ Joe Tipton on Saturday. The TCU transfer did not play in Vanderbilt’s last game against Wake Forest on December 21, when HC Mark Byington told reporters that he would miss time with a “lower-body injury.”
Vanderbilt guard Frankie Collins has suffered a torn meniscus and will be out indefinitely, source told @On3sports. The 6-foot-1 fifth-year senior has already undergone successful surgery. Was averaging 7.8 PTS, 4.2 REB, 4.7 AST, and 2.4 STL per game for the Dores.… pic.twitter.com/wcRImwDVov
Collins has been an excellent role player for the Commodores this season following the breakouts of both Duke Miles and Tyler Tanner, and he provides veteran experience with stops at 4 different schools across his 5 years in college. Collins has played for Michigan, Arizona State, TCU and now Vanderbilt.
The 6-1 guard is not the most efficient player on Vanderbilt’s roster, but he knows his role and provides valuable depth for a Commodores team that is still perfect on the season. Collins is averaging 2.4 steals, 4.7 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. It’s not going to win him any weekly awards, but the Commodores will definitely miss his presence on the court.
For now, it is still unknown how much time Collins will miss, though Byington noted on December 21 that he will not be out for the remainder of the season. The Vanderbilt guard has already had a successful surgery according to Tipton, so a return for a potential March Madness run is still on the table.
