ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We’re back to Green on the Threat Tracker as the snowstorm has exited the region. Snowfall totals were mostly on par with predictions. Sleet pushed farther north than anticipated, which cut snowfall totals from Orleans to Livingston County. However, east of Rochester many areas saw over half a foot. We are still above average snowfall so far this season, which is also on par with expectations.
Today will be cold and cloudy, with a small chance of passing flakes in the A.M. Clouds will dominate most the day before breaking up somewhat after sunset. Winds will be light, and highs will be in the upper 20s. We get down to the low 20s tonight.
Sunday starts cold but will rise up to around 40 degrees as near record atmospheric moisture builds to the west. Widespread rain will enter the region in the afternoon around 4pm, so if you’re going to the Bills game make sure to dress for wet weather. Rain lasts all the way through the evening, overnight, and Monday morning… Over an inch of rain is expected region-wide. Near Buffalo flooding is possible in the valleys of the higher elevations, but right now no concerns for the Rochester region.
Monday’s high will technically be near 50 degrees… But that will be early in the morning. Wind builds, a cold front passes, and temperatures plummet after the morning commute. Gusts could be up to 45 MPH but we are closely monitoring that. Lake effect snow off of Lake Erie will attempt to reach into the area during the evening commute but unlikely right now. Tuesday, the wind shifts and comes off of Lake Ontario. That may pose an issue to the morning commute. The pattern of bitterly cold temperatures, lake flakes, and gusty winds continues perhaps through New Year’s Eve.
