HGTV Host, 52, Thanks Fans After Getting Candid About Seeking Addiction Treatment

Longtime HGTV star David Bromstad is showing his appreciation for his fans and followers during the holiday season after opening up about a difficult period in his life.

The My Lottery Dream Home host, 52, recently revealed that he sought addiction treatment while he was in the midst of renovating his new Florida home. In an HGTV special that aired earlier in December, Bromstad explained that he began "using substances" after the house suffered extensive storm damage in the middle of the process.

Bromstad went on to say that while losing all of the progress was difficult, he was more affected by the fact that his dream house represented his opportunity to heal from the childhood trauma and bullying he experienced.

"Now my childhood fantasy, my house, is broken, like me," Bromstad said on My Lottery Dream Home: David’s Happy Ending, per People. "I think with the house, with where I’m at emotionally, physically, spiritually, psychologically, everything has stopped. I was literally screaming out for help."

Bromstad went on to say that in the aftermath of the home's destruction, he engaged in "unhealthy behaviors" while under "distress" but quickly realized that he was "in trouble." He ended up putting renovations on hold and checking into a "program."

After getting candid about the experience, fans showed their overwhelming support for the HGTV personality—and Bromstad says he couldn't be more thankful. In a message shared during an Instagram live on Wednesday (Dec. 24), he spoke directly to his followers.

"I wanted to thank everyone for the incredible support that you guys have given me after the show," he said in the Instagram video, adding. "It's been great [and] super amazing."

Bromstad went on to also share updates about his holiday plans and give a tour of the holiday decor in his new home, which included quite a few Christmas trees and many pops of pink.
