Spears recalled the incident on a 2023 episode of the U.K.'s reality series, I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here. "I almost lost my oldest daughter," the actress shared. "She drowned and we couldn’t save her," she continued. "I could feel her arm, and I’m jerking it, I couldn’t get her up because it’s a pretty heavy machine. In that moment, you think, you know logically she’s been underwater too long," she said of the harrowing moment she thought she'd lost her child. Maddie had a pulse when EMT arrived, and after several days in a coma and also being read her last rites by a priest, the then 8-year-old woke up. She made a miraculous recovery, according to her mom, even walking out of the hospital after the ordeal.
Watson has also recently opened up about the experience in a video on her YouTube channel in August 2025. She stated that she thinks she is accident-prone and has suffered a lot of injuries to her wrists, ankles, hip, and back throughout her life.
