ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Widespread snow this afternoon and evening will give us our first significant accumulations of the season so far. Some stray flakes are possible in the A.M., but just after midday things will really start to pick up. 4-8″ is possible in and east of Rochester, 2-4″ is possible southwest of Rochester but there is a lot of uncertainty in that region due to the possibility of sleet. Regardless of sleet versus snow, the roads will be slick and visibility will be reduced. If you are traveling home from Christmas, leave this morning or wait until tomorrow. Snow will end before midnight.

Chances for passing snow showers tomorrow morning but otherwise a dry and mostly cloudy Saturday with highs around 30. Sunday is less cold but cloudier and will have rain moving in later. Rain continues overnight, and becomes heavy during the Monday morning commute. A cold front will pass, and temperatures will plummet, winds will pick up, and rain will turn to wet snow before changing over to lake effect snow.
Cold, windy lake effect snow pattern will continue Tuesday, and perhaps through New Years. We will continue to monitor that situation and will send out updates with snowfall amounts/timing.
