PENFIELD, N.Y. — Lucy Broome, a freshman at the Charles Finney School, is making waves as a standout athlete in three sports: volleyball, basketball, and flag football.
“Her speed, her agility, her quickness, her coachability, her athleticism,” said Megan Pasquantonio, head coach of Charles Finney girls volleyball when asked what stood out about Broome.
Andy Marchand, head coach of Charles Finney girls basketball, praised Broome’s dedication, “A hard worker. I’ve gotten to experience her playing sports probably for the last four or five years and, it’s been impressive to watch.”
Broome has already secured three Section V championships and was named MVP in one of those title games. She won her first section title as an eighth grader in fall 2024 in volleyball, won another in spring 2025 in flag football, and defended her volleyball title this past fall.
“I’ve never wanted to be a mediocre player,” Broome said. “And so anytime I get a correction, I want to take it in and make sure I can be the best that I can be.”
Broome aims to elevate her teams to state titles after experiencing losses in previous attempts.
“I really have a drive in me right now to win a state title because sectionals, I mean, I’ve won it many times,” Broome said. “And I know it’s a lot harder to win a state one, but just losing this year did not feel good and I really just wanna get back and win one.”
Pasquantonio expressed pride in having Broome at Charles Finney for the next three years.
“Finney is pretty blessed to have an athlete like Lucy for the next three years,” Pasquantonio said.
Marchand also highlighted Broome’s character, describing her as a good person and a coach’s dream, “She’d be walking down the hallways, and if she saw a kindergartener or preschool girl with her shoes untied. She would go tie it for her. She’s just a good person, hard worker, and a coach’s dream.”
Broome is currently playing basketball and will compete in flag football in the spring before returning to volleyball next fall, aiming for her third straight Section V title.
