Because as NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reports above, Metcalf stands to lose $45 million in future guarantees — including $25 million in fully guaranteed cash that was set to come his way in 2026. The two-time Pro Bowl receiver agreed to a restructured contract with the Steelers when he was traded from the Seattle Seahawks back in March. YIKES! That monentary lapse of poor judgment by DK Metcalf could cause him to lose out on a ton of cash. To be clear, Metcalf can still earn that money over the duration of his contract by staying out of trouble and maintaining his roster spot. HOWEVER, the contract stipulations give the Steelers an easy financial out should they chose to go down that road.
I’m not sure Pittsburgh will dump DK Metcalf, whose 850 receiving yards and six touchdown receptions lead the team. But the Steelers could. And if that team misses the playoffs, in part due to Metcalf’s mess, I can see that scenario playing out.
