Monroe County may see higher law enforcement presence during this season’s STOP-DWI initiative

MONROE COUNTY, N.Y. — The Monroe County STOP-DWI program and local law enforcement are pushing the statewide STOP-DWI Holiday Season High Visibility Engagement Campaign, a road safety initiative that runs through Jan. 1, 2026.

During this period, drivers can see an increased presence of law enforcement throughout Monroe County.

This includes higher engagement efforts with the community to push the messages about preventing impaired driving and improving traffic safety, such as alcohol, drugs, or other substances.

“During the two-week holiday period at the end of each year, crashes climb significantly. Over the past three years, the daily average has increased from 50 to 60, meaning roughly 10 additional crashes each day,” said Lindsay Tomidy, Monroe County STOP-DWI Coordinator.

The holiday season’s STOP-DWI campaign is one of several initiatives promoted by the STOP-DWI program, Monroe County, and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
