Bass Legend Billy Sheehan Reveals Late 80s Rock Band is Done Making New Music

Metal Hall of Famer Billy Sheehan, who toured with American rock band Mr. Big on their The BIG Finale! farewell run earlier this year, says the group is unlikely to release new music. The bassist added that the final tour felt like a fitting goodbye to their fans.

In an interview with the Czech Republic's Hovory u Grega, Sheehan made the possibility of recording a new project clear.

"Nope. That's it. Finito. I think it's good to put a period at the end of the sentence: we're done. And also we wanted to end on a good note," he said.

"My toaster, when I toast my toast in the morning, at the end when it's over, it says 'end hot'. In other words, the toaster [has come to the] end. It's toasted, but be careful, it's hot. And every time I see that, I go, 'That's what MR. BIG did. We end hot.' And we didn't wanna crawl over the finish line. We wanted to run over the finish line."

The bassist was also adamant that Mr. Big returning with a new album or new performances would be unfair to the fans. He explained that fans flew in from "all over the world to every show we did," no matter where they lived or where the concert took place.

"And so I wouldn't want to be dishonest to them and then we start playing again. And so that wasn't the farewell tour. So it is absolutely the farewell tour. That's it. I have nothing but high regard for everybody involved in that band. We're still all good friends, and I wish all of them well, and I'm sure we'll see each other here and there. But I think it was wise for us to just stop," he added.

In prior interviews, Sheehan has explained the same reasoning and also added that the band members aren't as young as they used to be. While admitting to some rough nights, they decided to go on the farewell tour "running" and giving people a "good memory."

The late '80s rock band was formed with Eric Martin as lead vocals, Paul Gilbert on guitar, Sheehan, and Pat Tropey on drums. Besides Mr. Big, Sheehan has worked with hit artists like Talas, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Niacin, and The Winery Dogs.
