BOOM! Three Bears Are Going to the Pro Bowl

A charmed season for the Chicago Bears now features a trio of players who have earned Pro Bowl honors.

No one hit the Pro Bowl ballot boxes like Bears fans. As a result, three Bears have been named to the all-star roster with safety Kevin Byard, center Drew Dalman, and left guard Joe Thuney being named to the Pro Bowl on Tuesday. What an accomplishment for these players, whose contributions to the first Bears team to qualify for the postseason since 2020 are being recognized with some indivudual accolades. You just love to see it!

Meet the Bears Players headed to the Pro Bowl

    DREW DALMAN, CENTER

This year has been nothing short of remarkable for Bears center Drew Dalman. After spending four years with the Atlanta Falcons, Dalman signed a huge free-agent deal with Chicago back in March. Fast forward to December, and Dalman is celebrating his first Pro Bowl nod. What. A. Year. Dalman has played on 100 percent of the offensive snaps this team has played this season and currently grades out as the seventh-highest-graded center at Pro Football Focus. And for good measure, Dalman is the recipient of the Bears’ Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award. Talk about getting an immediate return on investment.

    JOE THUNEY, LEFT GUARD

A Pro Bowl nod is nothing new to Joe Thuney. The 33-year-old lineman, who was acquired in a trade with the Chiefs in March, has now earned Pro Bowl recognition in each of his last four seasons. Thuney also has a pair of first-team All-Pro seasons and two years in which he garnered second-team All-Pro consideration. In other words, Thuney is an example of excellence and consistency on the gridiron.

Like his linemate (and fellow Pro Bowler) Drew Dalman, Thuney has played on 100 percent of Chicago’s offensive snaps. Entering Week 17 of the NFL season, Thuney is rated as Pro Football Focus’ sixth-highest-graded guard and has a league-best 88.5 pass-blocking grade. You can point to myriad factors as to why this Bears team is playoff-bound, but you don’t have to look much further than the addition of two Pro Bowl-caliber interior offensive linemen who have set the tone in the trenches.

    KEVIN BYARD, SAFETY

Kevin Byard is in his second season with the Bears. He has been named a captain in each of those campaigns, and now has a Pro Bowl berth to boast on his résumé. This is the third time Byard has been named to the Pro Bowl, with the first two coming while he was a member of the Tennessee Titans. Byard has a league-leading six interceptions to go along with 83 tackles (59 solo), 4 tackles-for-loss, and a 75.3 grade from Pro Football Football Focus that ranks 11th among all safeties.

There were other Bears who were deserving of all-star recognition. However, they fell short in the end. But I wonder if we’ll see the Bears get any alternates named to the game. That always seems to pop up in January. Hopefully, Chicago’s football team is playing a far more meaningful game in Santa Clara, Calif., where the Pro Bowl Games will be played during Super Bowl LX Week.
