It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere I go. Especially the green-lettered “W3” streak sitting next to the red Chicago Bulls logo in the NBA standings — that’s my idea of festive decoration. And tonight, among a slate of games as long as the naughty list, I’ve checked it twice to make sure I’m ready to watch the Josh Giddey Bulls take on the Atlanta Hawks in a bit of a Christmas rematch.
Let’s talk Bulls basketball.
Bulls were on short end of two missed calls in league’s L2M report, including an away from play foul on Trae Young against Matas Buzelis with 22.8 seconds left. L2M report also says correct no call on final possession/Young’s final FGA
— K.C. Johnson (@KCJHoop) December 22, 2025 The first was a non-call in favor of Nikola Vučević, who was hit on the wrist by Jalen Johnson on a putback attempt. That missed call could’ve stalled the Hawks’ offensive momentum, put the Bulls up two possessions, and given Nikola two more points. And God knows he needed them, with trade rumors swirling almost as soon as the final buzzer sounded. Is Nikola Vucevic Back on the Bulls’ Trade Block? The next miss came with less than 30 seconds to go. On an inbounds play, Josh Giddey got the ball to Matas Buzelis, who then swung it to Coby White and drew a foul. However, the report suggests that Trae Young actually fouled Buzelis first and that he should’ve been sent to the line instead — saving two seconds on the clock, and maybe just enough time for Young to get a better look at the buzzer and sending the game to OT. twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/2002880828762976605?s=20 Officiating blunders have once again become a league-wide discussion. However, they haven’t spoiled the on-court product enough to warrant any real change. In fact, according to the NBA, across NBC/Peacock, ESPN, Amazon Prime Video, and NBA TV, the league is on pace for its most-watched season in 15 years. More than 87 million people in the U.S. have watched NBA games so far this season — an 89% increase from last year — shattering previous viewership expectations. Just a year ago, the league was being criticized for declining numbers. Now, with a star-studded Christmas slate still to come, even more records may be waiting to fall.More than 87 million people in the U.S. have watched NBA games this season across NBC/Peacock, ESPN, Amazon Prime Video and NBA TV, the most viewers in 15 years and up 89% vs. last year.(Excludes 2011-12 season which began on Christmas Day.) pic.twitter.com/zf5iAbbdnG
— NBA Communications (@NBAPR) December 22, 2025 Speaking of the coveted NBA Christmas Day games, the Chicago Bulls will be sitting this one out. It’s now been nearly a decade since the Bulls last suited up on Christmas Day, maybe a blessing in disguise, because except for Santa, who really wants to work on Christmas anyway? In fact, the break has opened up more time for players to give back to the community. Isaac Okoro hand-delivered gifts at a local children’s hospital, spending time with those who won’t be able to make it home for the holidays this year. twitter.com/bullscommunity/status/2003140569057702145?s=20 Matas Buzelis also did his part to spread some holiday cheer, surprising ten young hoopers from the Chicago Westside Police & Youth Sports Conference with a toy shopping spree and brand-new shoes last week. twitter.com/bullscommunity/status/2003245260550639738?s=20 The basketball world also just celebrated World Basketball Day on December 21. In the lead-up, ESPN released its Australian Athlete Power Rankings. Josh Giddey finished second on the list, trailing only Oscar Piastri of the McLaren Formula 1 Team heading into 2026. Giddey’s 2025 calendar year has been that good, helping him reach this status in a season where he only just found his footing, a really great sign of even better things to come, fingers crossed. @ Benny Sieu-Imagn Images Around the NBA, former Bull Jimmy Butler was repping his teammate, “full-time office worker, part-time basketball player” Pat Spencer in a Loyola lacrosse jersey. — Golden State Warriors (@warriors) December 23, 2025 The former five-time NBA All-Star also pleaded with fans not to vote him into this year’s NBA All-Star Game and instead fund a trip for him to Barbados. Despite having a solid season, I don’t think Butler was in the All-Star conversation either before, or after, making that request. twitter.com/BleacherReport/status/2003273783755571357?s=20 Down in the NBA G League, the Windy City Bulls closed out their Winter Showcase with a loss, but Mac McClung and Kevin Knox II showed their bag on the way out. McClung finished with 36 points and six assists, while Knox II poured in 31. They’re back in action on December 27 against the Motor City Cruise in Detroit. twitter.com/windycitybulls/status/2003222317477118072?s=20MORE BULLS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
