ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We have issued a Yellow Alert just for the morning commute. Widespread wet snow is moving through the region, creating slushy accumulations in spots especially south and west of Rochester. Nothing major, but enough to cause some travel concerns especially if left untreated. Snow will turn over to rain later this morning as temperatures rise above freezing, beginning with the lakeshore, at which point we’ll go back to green.
Chances for passing rain showers this afternoon but mainly dry otherwise, then some chances for passing mixed showers overnight. Christmas Eve will be dry and partly sunny to mostly cloudy with highs in the mid 30s, then Christmas will be milder with highs in the upper 30s among mostly cloudy skies.
Another clipper system moves through Friday which will give travel concerns for Chicago in the morning and our area by the evening/overnight. It will be over Boston by Saturday morning, but otherwise Saturday is looking fine for post-Christmas travel plans across the northeast. Sunday a large low pressure system moves through, which will pull up mild air ahead of it and plunge our temperatures down behind it. Starting Monday we’re back in the 20s with lake effect snow.
