I’ve been a fan of Bowers & Wilkins headphones for quite a while, dating back to some of their earlier over-ear models that really stood out to me. Since I have hearing loss, sound quality plays a bigger role in my day-to-day listening. Higher-end headphones tend to give me clearer detail and a more comfortable, enjoyable sound than budget options.

Because of that, I was genuinely excited to spend time with the Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 over-ear noise-canceling headphones. As the company’s current flagship, they aim to deliver refined sound, premium materials, and thoughtful tuning, all of which can make a noticeable difference in everyday listening.

    About Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2

The Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 are premium over-ear wireless headphones built for listeners who care as much about sound quality as they do about comfort and design. Positioned at the top of the Bowers & Wilkins headphone lineup, the Px8 S2 combine refined acoustic tuning with modern noise cancellation and high-end materials.

At the core are custom 40 mm carbon cone drivers designed to deliver clear, detailed audio with a balanced presentation that works well across genres. Support for high-resolution Bluetooth codecs, including aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless on compatible devices, this helps preserve audio quality when listening wirelessly. Active noise cancellation uses multiple microphones to reduce background noise while maintaining a natural sound signature.

The Px8 S2 are crafted with premium materials like Nappa leather and aluminum, giving them a luxury feel that matches their price point. Physical controls provide reliable playback and volume adjustment, while the Bowers & Wilkins Music app allows for basic EQ tuning, ANC mode selection, and firmware updates. Battery life is rated for up to 30 hours with noise cancellation enabled, with fast charging available for quick top-ups.

Designed for travel, work, and everyday listening, the Px8 S2 focus on delivering an upscale experience that blends sound quality, comfort, and build quality in a single package.

    User Experience

This is not my first experience with a Bowers & Wilkins premium headset. It’s always been pleasant and premium product interaction. When I opened the box, I found the headphones nestled inside their hard shell traveling/storage case. I love that Bowers & Wilkins includes this type of case. One of the best features of it is the hidden storage compartment for the cables. It’s closed with a magnetic flap and if you didn’t know it was there, you would completely miss it.

The headphones have a beautiful design to them. There is a gorgeous curve built into the headband that helps contour the ear cups to the natural shape of the human head. It allows the headband to set back slightly on your head and keeps the headset secure while you are wearing them. I found that this design element actually helps to keep the ear cups on my ears completely because it pushes them forward just a bit.

When I run a headset through tests for a review I focus on a few areas: comfort, sound quality, and connectivity.

Sound testing for this review was conducted using an iPhone over Bluetooth with the AAC codec. While the iPhone does not support advanced codecs such as aptX Adaptive or aptX Lossless, it offers consistent, high-quality AAC performance and a stable wireless connection. This makes it a reliable and widely used platform for evaluating tuning, clarity, balance, and overall sound character. Since many listeners will pair these headphones with an iPhone for everyday use, testing in this environment provides a realistic and practical representation of real-world listening performance.

    CONNECTIVITY & CONTROLS

It was very easy to get the headphones connected to my iPhone. I turned them on and they immediately went into Bluetooth pairing mode. The Px8 S2 popped up on my iPhone’s device list and I tapped it so they would pair. I had immediate control of the headphones’ main features. There is an app, but if you are ok with the default features of the headphones you really only need the app for firmware updates. Since I had used Bowers & Wilkins headphones before, I did already have the app and it immediately recognized the Px8 S2 headset.

One feature I was very impressed with was the Px8 S2’s Bluetooth range. I connected them to my iPhone, left the iPhone on my desk, which is on the north side of our house. Then I walked through the house and out our front door. I still had a stable connection until I passed in front of our garage, which meant I was also covered by a metal-roofed carport. Even though it was spotty, I could still hear bits of the music I was listening to when I reached our garbage cans. This was very impressive to me since there were many walls and other devices in the area that could have caused interference. The typical indoor range with walls/furniture should be around 15-25 feet from your connected device. By walking outdoors, I far exceeded that.

    COMFORT

I’ve always been happy with the comfort level that the Bowers & Wilkins Px series provides. The last set that I tested was the Px7 S3 and the design was very similar. The Px8 S2 are very comfortable and even though they feel heavier in your hand, they are very well-balanced on your head. There is just the right amount of cushion on the headband and the ear cups without it causing a heat issue. I’ve never had a problem with the headset causing a sweating problem or being so tight that I get headaches.

    SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality of the Px8 S2 is beyond amazing. I can hear even the most minor details of songs. There is an advanced EQ available in the app, but I left it on the True Sound setting because I thought the balance was ‘just right’ with all the music I was listening to.

    NOISE CANCELLATION

As far as noise cancellation goes, the Environmental Controls were quite good. In fact, they were almost too good. Even with the ANC turned completely off, I couldn’t hear any ambient noise when music was playing. Pass-through did allow some ambient noise in, but it still wasn’t much. The combination of the fit of the headset over my ears and the materials used on the ear cups provided a high level of noise isolation even without the ANC factored in.

    Conclusion

The Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 deliver exactly what you would expect from a flagship over-ear headset. From build quality to sound performance, everything about them feels intentional and refined. The comfort makes them easy to wear for long listening sessions, while the sound tuning provides exceptional clarity and balance across a wide range of content. Connectivity is reliable, battery life is strong, and the overall experience feels polished from the moment you open the box.

While the price firmly places the Px8 S2 in the premium category, the combination of sound quality, materials, and thoughtful design justifies the cost for listeners who value audio performance. If sound quality is a priority and you want a headset that feels as good as it sounds, the Px8 S2 are an excellent choice.
