It's been nearly 40 years since audiences last entered the comedic world of Mel Brooks' zany Spaceballs.
But as most of the comedian's longtime fans are sure to know, the wait for an official Spaceballs sequel is very nearly over, with a highly anticipated follow-up to the film slated to arrive in theaters in 2027.
As audiences count down the days until the film's imminent arrival, Spaceballs 2 star Lewis Pullman is shedding light on the upcoming sequel, calling it a "dream come true" in a recent interview with People magazine.
In his interview, the 32-year-old actor provided a massive update on the production behind the film, confirming that the project had indeed wrapped filming, placing them well on schedule for its 2027 release window.
“We just wrapped, and … every day was such a trip,” the Thunderbolts* actor said. “It … felt like a bizarre simulation. I just couldn’t believe my luck.”
As those familiar with the details surrounding Spaceballs 2 might recognize, the younger Pullman is set to appear in the Spaceballs sequel alongside his father and original Spaceballs star Bill Pullman.
The elder Pullman will, of course, reprise his role as the Han Solo-derived spoof Lone Starr, while his son Lewis will portray an entirely new character named Starburst.
“We’ve been wanting to do that forever and we never knew whether we could get the chance or not,” the younger Pullman said of the sequel. “And so doing it on a movie like Spaceballs 2 was just like, ‘What simulation … what world are we in right now?’”
Previously, the father-son acting duo worked together on the 2017 Western, The Ballad of Lefty Brown. Spaceballs 2 will mark their first on-screen collaboration following said film.
Both of the Pullmans join a long list of performers set to appear in the Mel Brooks-inspired space opera comedy film. In addition to Lewis and Bill Pullman, Spaceballs 2 is set to star Brooks, Daphne Zuniga, Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Anthony Carrigan, George Wyner and Rick Moranis in his first significant role since 1997.
