Midsomer Murders returns to our screens this month with two brand new episodes, The Devil’s Work and Book of the Dead.
The first revolves around a suspicious death that throws an already fractured family into further turmoil, while the second centres on the death of the author of a book that once sparked a nationwide treasure hunt.
“The invitation to join the Midsomer team was one I jumped at without hesitation!” said Book of the Dead guest star Jon Culshaw when asked what appealed to him about signing up to [the show]. “Despite the murderous tales, there’s a glow about the show. It’s well loved and the audience trusts that they’re going to be served a wonderful story.”
Speaking about filming The Devil’s Work, guest star Sarah Woodward said: “It was joyful, the whole thing... it’s always fun working with Neil [Dudgeon, who plays DCI John Barnaby]. He’s very relaxed and makes everyone feel great, an amazing team member and an absolute sweetie. He makes it very special.”

What is Midsomer Murders: The Devil's Work about?
“Ancient families like the Shirewells thrive on tradition, but when the eldest son throws a bomb into five centuries of history, long-buried resentments resurface," reads the official synopsis.
“The Shirewells have ruled Stourwick Hall since 1588, but the family is splintered: bohemian heir Lucian is the black sheep, while his brother Francis and sister Ursula cling to tradition.
“Following the death of their father, Lucian declares the Shirewell era over – evicting his siblings and turning the estate into an artists’ commune, chapel gallery and solar park – plans which are viewed as wilful desecration by family and estate workers alike.
“But when an incriminating letter is found among their father’s belongings, foul play is suspected, and Barnaby and Winter are called in.
“Lucian looks guilty – but is he the culprit, or being framed by someone desperate to seize back control.”
“When the author of a book which sparked a nationwide treasure hunt is found dead, Barnaby must unravel the clues to find the killer among a group of dedicated seekers,” reads the official synopsis. ]
"Ten years ago, the genius puzzle setter Bertram Jewel published Seeker, a bestselling picture book which sparked a nationwide hunt for hidden treasure, worth a life-changing amount.
"But the prize was never found – and now his fortune has dwindled, he’s living with his best friend Eli Trask, Eli’s wife Danica and their Seeker-obsessed son Ludo, while planning a ten-year anniversary event in Mods Mire to relaunch the book and boost sales.
"At the event, excitement spikes when Bertram announces he is reprinting Seeker with a brand-new page of clues – until journalist Billie reveals intel that he was imprisoned 24 years ago for a confidence trick under his real name Robert Grimes.
"The next day, Bertram is found brutally murdered in the woods, and Barnaby and Winter are called in; with a key lead that Bertram sent a photo of the famed Seeker treasure to Ludo and his publisher Jane just before he died, they must work out who killed him — and why."
