If you’ve walked through Islands of Adventure lately and felt like one section of the park has been stuck in a holding pattern, you’re not wrong—and now there’s fresh evidence that change is officially underway.
A newly filed construction permit tied to the Lost Continent area at Universal Orlando Resort outlines plans for a new attraction in the former home of Poseidon’s Fury. Universal hasn’t announced anything publicly yet, but the filing shows that work is moving forward at a site that’s been dormant for years.

— SaxOnTracks (@SaxOnTracks) December 19, 2025Back in September, Universal confirmed that construction activity was planned in the area to prepare it for future development. At the time, the company didn’t say what would eventually go there. The new permit is the most concrete sign yet that something is actively being planned.
The permit lists Intamin as the contractor, too. That name may sound unfamiliar, but their work isn’t. Intamin is behind some of the most talked-about attractions at Islands of Adventure, including VelociCoaster and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Intamin’s work can be found at major theme parks around the world, including attractions built for Disney, Six Flags and Cedar Fair, and the company is best known for designing large-scale, high-profile rides.

The location tied to the permit lines up with land once occupied by Poseidon’s Fury, the special-effects walkthrough that closed permanently in 2023. For years, the attraction sat empty, and its surrounding structures have since been demolished, opening up a large area inside the park.
Lost Continent was one of the original themed lands when Islands of Adventure opened in 1999, built around ancient myths, gods and crumbling ruins. Over time, its main attractions gradually disappeared. The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad closed in 2018, followed by Poseidon’s Fury, leaving behind shops, restaurants and a lot of unanswered questions about what would come next.
That space sits between Seuss Landing and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, making it some of the most central real estate in the park. Because of that, speculation has followed. One long-running rumor suggests Lost Continent could eventually be reimagined around The Legend of Zelda, a Nintendo property that would fit the area’s fantasy look and Universal’s broader relationship with Nintendo. Universal has not confirmed any theme or intellectual property.
For now, the permit doesn’t name the ride, reveal a theme or list an opening date. What it does show is progress. After years of closures and demolition, Lost Continent is no longer sitting in a holding pattern—something new is officially in the works.
