ROCHESTER, N.Y. — More than 800 children ages 1 through 11 celebrated the holiday season by receiving gifts and spending time with Santa at the Roc Royal Foundation’s annual holiday toy giveaway.
Families gathered at East High School in Rochester for food, gifts, and holiday spirit on Saturday. Organizers say it feels good to give back during the holiday season.
“Just seeing the kids smile, some families can’t afford a Christmas at this time,” said Khadija Yawn, executive director of Roc Royal “We’re in a crazy economy, so being able to partner with families to bring joy during the holiday season is why we do it.”
According to Yawn, the first year they hosted the event, only 25 kids showed up, and now they are at more than 800 kids.
“The growth is astronomical, but that means that there is a need, so if we can continue to provide a need, we’ll continue to do it,” said Yawn.
This year marks the 12th year that Roc Royal has held their toy giveaway.
