Futures qualifier Rylan Sepulveda has announced his commitment to swim for West Virginia University beginning in the fall of 2026.
“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at West Virginia University, thank you to all my coaches, teammates, and family for their extreme dedication and impact on making me who I am today! Thank you to the coaches of WVU for this opportunity, and I can’t wait to join the family in almost heaven, GO MOUNTAINEERS!”
A senior at Creekside High School in Saint Johns, Florida, Sepulveda has been a member of the Knights’ swimming and diving team since his freshman year. In addition to competing for his high school team, he currently trains year-round with the Bolles School Sharks, where he primarily specializes in the longer distances of free, back and IM.
Sepulveda turned in a strong showing at the RAFC Winter Classic a few weeks ago in early December, earning a second swim in each of his individual events and posting a stream of season-best times. He placed 4th in the 400 IM (4:08.23 – SB) and 500 free (4:40.61), 5th in the 1000 free (9:50.39 – SB), 7th in the 200 free (1:44.04), 8th in the 50 free (21.66) and 12th in the 100 free (47.49 – SB). During prelims, he also turned in season-best times in the 50 free (21.47) and 200 free (1:43.26).
Sepulveda has competed at the FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association) Class 4A State Championships all four years of high school. His highest-placing individual performance came in 2022, when he finished 9th in the 500 free in 4:39.83. At the 2025 iteration of the meet, Sepulveda placed 13th in the 500 free (4:37.05 – SB) and helped his team to 3rd-place finishes in the 200 free relay and 400 free relay and a 10th-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
At the 2025 Futures Championship (LCM) in Ocala, Sepulveda delivered a series of lifetime best performances. He contested the 50 free (24.45), 200 free (1:59.44 – SB), 400 free (4:14.63 – SB), 800 free (9:00.05 – SB), 400 IM (4:43.10 – PB), 50 back (28.31) and 50 fly (27.81 – PB). He also posted personal best times in a handful of events as the leadoff on his team’s relays, including the 50 free (24.11), 100 free (53.90), 50 back (27.90) and 100 back (1:01.31).
Several of Sepulveda’s top times are from the 2023 HIGH Winter Classic. During that competition, he logged four personal best times that still stand today. Sepulveda placed 5th in the 1650 free (16:04.64), 10th in the 200 back (1:55.14) and 20th in the 100 back (54.20), and he clocked a new lifetime best in the 1000 free (9:35.75) during the opening of his 1650.

The team sent one athlete, Owen Recker, to compete at the NCAA Division I Championships, where he placed 37th in the men’s 10-meter diving and 51st in the 3-meter diving.
To earn a second swim at last season’s conference championship, it took times of 1:36.97/4:26.95 in the 200/500 free, 48.96/1:49.44 in the 100/200 back and 4:00.10 in the 400 IM, putting Sepulveda outside the cutoff in each of his top events. On the team itself, he would have ranked 5th in the 1000 free, 1650 free and 400 IM and 7th in the 500 free last season.
The full list of recruits currently set to join Sepulveda in Morgantown next fall includes Jin Rossi, Jay Hickman, Dan Ginaitis, Emre Zeytinoglu, Roman Torres, Carter Bradley, Kenneth McGlothen and Owen Eisenhofer, all of whom should make for strong training partners over the next four years.
