Grady Jarrett Knows What It’ll Take to Beat the Packers

After coming so close to taking down the Green Bay Packers in Week 14, the Chicago Bears should have a good idea of how they can go about flipping the script in Week 16 when the game is played at Soldier Field.

Let’s allow defensive lineman Grady Jarrett to take it from here:

“I think we just have to cut out the big plays. It comes down to a couple plays in a game when you are playing with two top teams. We can’t make as many mistakes. Whether it’s executing on defense or turnover here or not getting the turnover here, we have to be on our P’s and Q’s. That’s one of the biggest lessons that we had to learn the hard way the first time out there. We are going to zoom in on that and focus on things we can control. Because at the end of the day, it’s about us, and that’s how it is and that’s how we know it and that’s how we want it.”

Perhaps that is an oversimplification of things, but Grady Jarrett isn’t wrong here. The Bears gave up too many big plays to the Packers in Week 14. Splash plays to speedy wide receiver Christian Watson, getting beaten on a deep ball by cornerback-slash-receiver Bo Melton, and running back Josh Jacobs’ third-down conversion run weren’t just big plays by Green Bay’s offense — they were also plays Chicago’s defense would like to have back. If the Bears can limit the Packers’ explosive plays, they have a fighter’s chance to win Saturday’s game at Soldier Field.

Grady Jarrett is starting to pick up his production on the field

After a slow start to his first season with the Chicago Bears, business is starting to pick up for defensive lineman Grady Jarrett. In his last six games, Jarrett has clocked 18 tackles (7 solo), 1 tackle-for-loss, 3 quarterback hits, and his first sack as a member of the team. These numbers aren’t eye-opening, but they do represent an improvement in the production department when compared to how he was playing earlier. I am convinced that the knee injury that sidelined him early in the season threw him off his game. So perhaps it makes sense that Jarrett is starting to round into form down the stretch.

CHICAGO BEARS VS. GREEN BAY PACKERS WEEK 16 PREVIEW

I had mixed feelings about the Bears signing Grady Jarrett in the offseason. But one thing I knew that I loved about the signing was that he would provide a much-needed veteran presence in the trenches. Do the intangibles make up for the lack of production? Not completely, per se. However, there is value in having a leader in the locker room who can bring a little something beyond the box score. With that being said, I’d like for Jarrett to contribute more in the box score.

Grady Jarrett’s 56.0 grade ranks 72nd among 126 interior defensive linemen who qualified for the Pro Football Focus Leaderboard. That number would also represent a career-worst showing for the 32-year-old defensive tackle. But just because things haven’t gone as planned to this point doesn’t mean things can’t change. And what better time to turn it around than on Saturday against the Packers? It feels noteworthy that two of Jarrett’s best games have come in the last two weeks, with grades of 66.9 (Week 14 vs. Packers) and 66.6 (Week 15 vs. Browns). What if Jarrett can stack a third consecutive solid game? I guess we’ll find out on Saturday night.
