BRIGHTON, N.Y. — Students at Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women have been spreading holiday cheer through their annual Golden Mass event on Friday. The school continued its tradition of collecting food, clothing, and essentials for families in need.
High school students teamed up with Catholic Charities to fulfill wish lists for 18 local refugee families.
Meanwhile, the middle school students gathered books and supplies for 176 preschoolers. Each of the 18 families also got handmade blankets, made by the school’s community.
“I think the biggest thing about this day this year is we did quilts, Afghans for families that were made by our students, our faculty, staff, and all individuals who are part of our circle of mercy, including we got patches from California. So, it’s a really beautiful tradition today,” said Sheryl Anne Diodato, school principal.
More than 2,000 items were collected and delivered to families and classrooms at the mass, officials said.
