ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The holiday season is here. There are so many holiday festivities and other events happening around the Rochester area on Friday and this weekend. Here is your guide.
Roc Holiday Village and Winter Wonderland Run
Roc Holiday Village continues on Friday and this weekend at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park in downtown Rochester. The seventh annual holiday celebration includes shopping, ice skating, visits with Santa, food, and more.
The free holiday village will stay open on Wednesdays through Sundays, except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, through Sunday, Dec. 28. It’s closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
So much is happening at the village each day. That includes the second annual Winter Wonderland Run 5K on Saturday, Dec. 20. The race kicks off at 4:30 p.m. It starts and finishes on Chestnut Street between Woodbury Boulevard and Court Street. You can sign up here. You can see a full schedule for the holiday village here. Here are the hours for some areas of the village:
Santa’s Workshop: Wednesday through Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Triple-O Lodge & Frosty’s Food Court: Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m., Friday from 4 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ice Rink (weather permitting): Wednesday through Friday from 4 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Shopping Village: Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m., Friday from 4 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Gingerbread House: Wednesday through Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.Amerks teddy bear toss (Friday)
The Amerks are bringing back the Teddy Bear Toss on Friday night to support the Pirate Toy Fund. It’s happening during the game against the Belleville Senators.
Fans are encouraged to bring new teddy bears and other stuffed animals to toss onto the ice after the Amerks score their first goal of the game. If no goal is scored by the end of the second period, fans will toss their stuffed animal during the second intermission.
The bears will be collected and donated. The nonprofit Pirate Toy Fund supplies new toys year-round to agencies that bring aid and comfort to thousands of children in need throughout the greater Rochester region. You can learn more about the toy fund here. The Amerks last hosted a teddy bear toss in February, which also supported the Pirate Toy Fund.
Village Gate Holiday Market (Saturday)
Village Gate on North Goodman Street is hosting its inaugural holiday market on Saturday. The indoor market will include handmade crafts, live music, holiday craft classes, food, drinks, photos with Santa, and more. It runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Black Power Marketplace (Saturday)
The Community Justice Initiative is holding a Black Power Marketplace to highlight Black-owned businesses for the holiday season. It runs from noon to 4 p.m. at 398 Thurston Road. It includes raffle prizes.
Fairport Fire Department Santa Run (Saturday)
Santa is coming to Fairport on Saturday on a fire truck decked out for the holidays. His route will be a bit random, but if you want to see him, the fire truck will stop by FFD Station 1 between 6 and 6:30 p.m. You can learn more on the Fairport Fire Department’s Facebook page.
Reindeer Run (Sunday)
The annual Reindeer Run 5K and kids’ half-mile race returns to downtown Rochester on Sunday. It starts and ends at the Blue Cross Arena. The 5K begins at 8:30 a.m. and the kids’ race begins at 9:20 a.m.
The race will go through Exchange Street, the Ford Street Bridge, Wilson Boulevard, and more. You can register and see a course map here. Race awards will be inside the Blue Cross Arena at 9:45 a.m.
You can pick up your race packet at Fleet Feet at the Culver Road Armory on Friday, Dec. 19, Saturday, Dec. 20, or race day at the Blue Cross Arena. The first 400 people to pick up their packets will get antlers.
