South Carolina running back Oscar Adaway has filed a criminal complaint against a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper, according to a report from The Washington Post.
Adaway was 1 of 2 South Carolina football players who were shoved by a state trooper during the Gamecocks’ game against Texas A&M on Nov. 15. The complaint, which was filed on Dec. 12, accused the trooper of assault.
The Brazos County District Attorney is considering whether to move forward with charges, according to The Post. Adaway called the Texas A&M Police to report an assault, according to The Post, but the department declined to provide the trooper’s name.

— Nick Bromberg (@NickBromberg) November 15, 2025“The blue wall is a real thing as it relates to protecting their own, in this part of the country more so than others,” Adaway’s attorney, B. Keith Jackson, said in a statement to The Post. “I do think there’s a good chance they bring charges, only because of the video that was shown across the country that shows there was an assault committed.”
Immediately after the incident, the Texas A&M Police Department put out a statement on social media that, in part, said the trooper had been relieved of his gameday assignment.
However, video of the incident spread quickly across social media, with South Carolina fans and neutral observers alike admonishing the trooper’s actions. NBA superstar LeBron James even called for the trooper to be suspended.
According to the report from The Post, members of the South Carolina athletic department have since attempted to identify the trooper but have had no success.
The report also states that Adaway, who has said he has never had a bad interaction with a law enforcement officer before, has lost sleep over the incident and begun seeing a sports psychiatrist at South Carolina.
