The University of Northern Colorado softball team begins its 2026 season in early February, hosts the first home series later in the month and turns to Big Sky Conference play in late March, according to a schedule released this week.
The Bears’ 46-game regular-season will be followed by the six-team Big Sky Conference Tournament in early May in Pocatello, Idaho. Idaho State hosts the postseason tournament May 4-7 as the 2025 Big Sky regular-season champion.
UNC finished 19-30 overall in 2025 and 7-7 in the Big Sky.
The Bears are scheduled to play at home for the first time in 2026 on Friday, Feb. 27 while hosting Creighton and Colorado State in the three-day Colorado Classic. UNC meets Creighton for three games Feb. 27-28. The Bears then have one game against CSU on Feb. 28 and March 1.
UNC head coach Dedeann Pendleton-Helm is a Creighton graduate, and played softball for the Bluejays from 1991-95. Pendleton-Helm has a master’s degree from CSU and was a longtime Rams’ assistant before being hired by UNC in June 2022.
The Bears play their home games at Gloria Rodriguez Field on 17th Avenue in Greeley.
The first Big Sky Conference series is also at Rodriguez Field. UNC hosts Sacramento State on Friday-Saturday, March 27-28.
UNC starts the year with nonconference road trips to California, Arizona and Texas. The Bears play five games Friday-Sunday, Feb. 6-8 at UCLA, meeting University of California Santa Barbara, the host Bruins, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount and University of California Riverside.
The following weekend, UNC goes to Phoenix for five games Feb. 13-15 against South Dakota, Grand Canyon and Harvard.
The Bears are scheduled for five games Feb. 20-22 hosted by University of Texas San Antonio. UNC plays Stephen F. Austin, host UTSA and the University of Massachusetts Lowell on Feb. 20-21. Opponents are not known for a second game Feb. 21 and a game Feb. 22.
UNC hosts a second Colorado Classic Tournament March 6-8, including three more nonconference games against South Dakota.
The team will start spring break with a quick return trip to the West Coast for three games against the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. The Bears finish the break at home March 20-21 against Saint Mary’s at Rodriguez Field.
After the Big Sky opening series against Sacramento State, the Bears’ in-conference schedule is: April 3-4 at Montana; April 10-11 vs. Idaho State; April 17-18 at Portland State; and April 24-25 at home against defending Big Sky tournament champion Weber State.
The 2025 conference tournament was hosted by UNC at Rodriguez Field.
