The doping case involving 2024 Bolivian Olympic swimmer Maria Jose Pinto Ribera has been settled.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that Pinto will be ineligible until February 2026 after testing positive at the 2024 Paris Olympics for furomeside, a substance classified as capable of masking other drugs from the system.

The 28-year-old Pinto was officially handed a 16-month ban effective Oct. 8, 2024 after being placed under a provincial suspension.

One of the flag bearers for Bolivia at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Pinto tested positive for furomeside after finishing 28th in the women’s 50 meter freestyle. After two different tests came back positive, Pinto accepted her Olympic disqualification and the International Olympic Committee passed the case on to World Aquatics.

Pinto pleaded her innocence throughout, claiming shethe was given contaminated vitamins by professionals she was working with.

In June, it was announced by the International Testing Agency that Bolivian physician Dr. Matheus Das Neves Borgo was banned for six years following violations of anti-doping regulations.

The ITA said Dr. Borgo was responsible for administering and facilitating the use of furosemide to athletes.

Dr. Borgo accepted the charges and didn’t contest the sanction, which will last until June 11, 2031.

The 2024 Games marked Pinto’s first Olympics.

She has competed for Bolivia on the international stage since 2011, highlighted by a silver medal performance in the 50 freestyle at the 2011 South American Youth Championships.

Pinto originally clocked a time of 26.07 in the 50 free at the Paris Games, which was a new personal best. It was her only event of the Olympics.
