President Donald Trump is headed to Rocky Mount Friday night for his third visit to North Carolina this year, and the first of the upcoming campaign season for the 2026 midterm elections.

According to a White House advisory, the doors of the Rocky Mount Convention Center will open at 6:00 P.M. Friday. The president will likely speak after 9:00 P.M.

Rocky Mount is located in the newly-redrawn 1st Congressional District, which is now more likely to elect a Republican candidate after decades of representation by Black Democrats. Republican state lawmakers redrew the district in October at Trump’s request.

Incumbent Rep. Don Davis, a Snow Hill Democrat, has said he will run for re-election in 2026 despite the redrawn map.

Several Republicans have already filed for the March primary, including state Senator Bobby Hanig (R-Currituck) and Laurie Buckhout, the winner of the district’s 2024 GOP primary. Buckhout lost to Davis in 2024 by only a few thousand votes. She’s been working in the Trump administration for the past year.

The Trump administration hasn’t yet said what the president will be speaking about. His address from the White House largely focused on inflation and rising health care costs.

But if history is any guide, the president could use the event to make endorsements in the 1st district primary as well as the U.S. Senate primary.

Former national GOP chairman Michael Whatley is the best-known name in the Senate primary, and the one with the closest ties to Trump through his work with Trump and daughter-in-law Lara Trump at the RNC. Whatley broke the news of Trump’s event on social media earlier in the week.

However, several other candidates have filed to challenge Whatley for the nomination, including conservative activist Don Brown and Michele Morrow, the 2024 GOP nominee for state schools chief who lost to Democrat Mo Green.

More candidates could still emerge before the president arrives. Candidate filing for 2026 ends Friday at noon.
