Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek will soon share updates with fans in an interview with Today'sCraig Melvin. On December 17, Melvin shared a few behind-the-scenes glimpses of the two together via his Instagram page, and fans had plenty to say about it.

Melvin said that Van Der Beek's positivity was "refreshing and inspiring."
"We talked about where he is on his journey, the importance of cancer screenings, and how he's finding joy in family and faith," Melvin added. He noted that the interview with Van Der Beek will air on Friday, December 19.
The Today co-host included three photos in his Instagram post. One showed him standing with Van Der Beek, and another showed the two of them sitting in chairs with the bright lights for filming shining down on them. The third photo captured Van Der Beek smiling.
The comment section of Melvin's Instagram post was filled with heart emojis and well-wishes for Van Der Beek.
One fan commented, "Looking good! Great color, more weight! Prayers, Blessings, Love!!"

Just over a year ago, Van Der Beek went public with his cancer battle. He told People, "I have colorectal cancer. I've been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family."
At the time, Van Der Beek added, "There's reason for optimism, and I'm feeling good."
In July, Van Der Beek shared an update with Today. He acknowledged that treating and living with what was initially diagnosed as Stage 3 colon cancer was a "journey" and a "process." He noted, "It'll probably be a process for the rest of my life."
While Van Der Beek initially kept his diagnosis private, he has since become much more public about it in an effort to spread awareness. He told Today in July that he's heard from many people who have been helped by his openness.
"That's been stuff that really makes me cry. When people say, 'I got checked, I got a colonoscopy, I got a polyp removed,'...just to save somebody that journey.'"
Despite his smiles and positive attitude, fans expressed concerns about Van Der Beek over the past few months. In September, he had to cancel a scheduled appearance at a Dawson's Creek reunion that was slated to honor him and raise funds for the organization F Cancer. He made an appearance via video, and many fans thought he looked frail.
In November, Van Der Beek announced he would be auctioning off "treasures" from his Dawson's Creek and Varsity Blues days. He explained, "With all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life presented recently, it's clear the time is now" to help those treasured items find new homes. The funds would go to help the Van Der Beek family with the financial strains they've incurred due to his cancer.
More recently, Van Der Beek had to postpone this sitdown with Melvin. His interview was initially slated to air on Today on December 5. However, he revealed, he contracted pink eye from one of his kids and had to reschedule.
Despite previous setbacks and concerns, fans loved seeing the new photos Melvin shared and many thought he looked like he was doing well.
