Did you ever think the House of Cards frontman would ever return to the small screen?
Well, it's happening. Kevin Spacey is set to mark his return to TV for the first time since he was fired from Netflix’s beloved series in 2017 amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
The two-time Oscar winner, 66, will star in Italian comedy series Minimarket for Italy‘s state broadcaster RAI, Variety reports.
Spacey will play himself as the imaginary mentor of a young man who works in a Rome convenience store and dreams of becoming a TV star, the magazine reported on Thursday, Dec. 18.
According to the synopsis, Spacey plays an aspiring Italian star's “artistic conscience and unpredictable mentor,” with their rapport mostly grounded in “bickering, misunderstandings and mutual teasing.” It adds that the show captures both “the experience of a man who has been on the world’s most important [movie and TV] sets” and “the recklessness of someone who does not realise that they have an Oscar-winner by their side,” Variety also noted.
The 10-episode show will launch on RAI’s RaiPlay streaming service starting Dec. 26.
In 2022, Spacey was found not liable by a federal jury in New York over a civil lawsuit. Actor Anthony Rapp accused the actor of inappropriate sexual behavior in 1986 when he was 14.
A year later, the U.K. court acquitted Spacey of all nine criminal charges against him, including multiple counts of sexual assault. Four men came forth with the accusations during Spacey’s tenure as artistic director at the Old Vic Theatre. He still faces three more sexual assault claims in the London civil court next year.
Earlier this month, fellow actor Judi Dench revealed that she and Spacey are still in contact and makes a comment about him having been found not guilty of his charges.
“Kevin has been exonerated and I hear from Kevin, we text,” Dench, 91, told the Radio Times in an interview article published on Dec. 7.
