MARTINEZ – A 40-year-old Union City woman who allegedly fired a handgun at a boy last month in San Ramon is facing a charge of attempted murder, prosecutors said.

The boy was wounded in the shooting, but the injury was not life-threatening.
Xiaojie Zhang was arrested in connection with the shooting, as well as stalking another person and making criminal threats on or around the same day, prosecutors said.
Zhang was arraigned Tuesday on a five-count felony complaint for attempted murder, stalking, child abuse and criminal threats. She pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder charge.
Prosecutors said the charges of attempted murder, stalking and child abuse come with enhancements for intentionally discharging a firearm to cause great bodily injury, as well as the use of a firearm in commission of attempted commission of the offense.
Zhang waived her right to a preliminary hearing within 10 days of being charged, so a date for the hearing has yet to be set.
Zhang remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility on a $1.675 million bond.
