For the past four days, Hollywood has been mourning the loss of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, who both suffered multiple stab wounds and were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday afternoon.
Reiner touched the lives of many actors, producers and directors, with many of them having kind words to say about the legendary filmmaker. On top of being a great director, he was also a respected actor, appearing in many films and TV shows such as All in the Family, Throw Momma from the Train, Sleepless in Seattle, Bullets Over Broadway The First Wives Club, Primary Colors, EDtv and The Wolf of Wall Street.
On Wednesday, Rita Wilson shared her tribute to the late director and his wife with Variety. The two have worked together multiple times, as co-stars in Sleepless in Seattle and Mixed Nuts, and he even directed her in North and The Story of Us years later. Wilson has also gotten to know Reiner's wife, Michele, who "found beauty every day."
Rita Wilson, Rob Reiner, Michelle Pfeiffer and Bruce Willis at the New York premiere of their new movie, "The Story Of US.""Yes, there is the work we did together — the films will be there to experience over and over again," Wilson started off her tribute. "What can’t ever be experienced again is running into Rob and Michele in the neighborhood and having a great laugh, or having dinner where Michele insists on having only one conversation."
The "Look How Far We've Come" singer then continued on about how the couple hosted "Bad Showbiz Night" parties, where everyone would gather around and share their most humiliating or worst show business stories.
The next part was dedicated to Michele, who was a photographer and producer, "who had a keen eye in her work and in her life." The couple met while Reiner was working on When Harry Met Sally in 1987, and their love story actually inspired Reiner to change the movie's ending to have Harry and Sally end up together. They ended up having four children together — Nick, Romy, Jake and Tracy.
Finally, the 69-year-old actress acknowledged that Reiner was an activist who "made history in multiple ways through his work" and how the couple both "made a difference in their civic contributions and actions."
"They made the world a better place. They loved their kids. Each one. They did everything right," Wilson concluded. "It’s hard to reconcile the goodness they offered to the world with this ending. It doesn’t make sense. But how they lived makes all the sense in the world."
