Rarely Seen Hollywood Icon, 81, Resurfaces With Christmas Present for Fans in Bizarre New Video

It’s the season of gift-giving and Gary Busey wanted to make sure his fans received a little something from himself.

“Hey! It’s Gary Busey, and I have got a great Christmas present for you,” Busey, 81, began in a new video posted to his Instagram account on Tuesday, December 16. “Listen to this.”

The Buddy Holly Story star then proceeded to honk like a goose several times.

“That’s what a goose sounds like when they’re flying,” Busey continued. “You know, they're up there. You get a bunch of geese together, and you know, they’re honking in the air.”

Fans definitely got a kick out of their “present” and several filled the comments section with their praise for the Academy Award nominee.

“Time sure does fly, thanks for all the great movies Gary! Merry Christmas,” one Instagram user wrote.

Another added, “love you Gary. You are still the F-ing Man!!” while another joked, “I never asked for this Christmas present Gary.”

Busey’s breakout came in the late ‘70s when he earned an Oscar nomination for playing Buddy Holly, then he spent the ‘80s and ‘90s, bouncing between dramas and all-out action staples like Point Break, Lethal Weapon and Under Siege. His presence in a movie instantly cranked the energy up, and that mix of charm and chaotic charisma kept him working steadily for decades.

In the 2000s, he was embraced by reality TV. Celebrity Rehab, The Apprentice, and a handful of VH1 projects reintroduced him to a new generation. However, they also spotlighted the unpredictability he’d become famous for both onscreen and off. He still popped up in films and voiceover roles, although in much smaller doses.

Busey suffered a serious motorcycle accident in 1988, followed by years of recovery and ongoing health challenges that he has spoken about publicly.

"About 25 years ago, I had an accident on a Harley-Davidson," he explained to The Guardian in 2020. "I went off the bike without a helmet, hit my head into a [curb], split my skull, passed away after brain surgery and went to the other side – the spiritual realm where I got information. And I came back, and these messages, these definitions, came to me first-class. I'll think of a word and write the word down without thinking."

Busey went on to say that he was “surrounded by angels” and that he “felt trust, love, protection and happiness like you cannot feel on earth.”

“Three angels came up to me…I was a quarter of an inch wide and 1ft long. That is your soul, and your soul is housed in the column of your spine,” he added. “And three balls of light came up to me and talked to me. The one on the left talked to me in an androgynous voice and said the direction I was going in was good, but because of my responsibility to mankind I had to look for helping spirits around.”

These days, Busey mostly keeps to himself aside from the occasional social media posts, but it’s clear that his fans are still just as invested in what he’s up to now as when he was the talk of Hollywood.
