From "Brown-Eyed Girl" to "Moondance" and so many more, Van Morrison is one of the most beloved singer-songwriters in rock history. Luckily for longtime fans and new listeners alike, the 80-year-old musician is still playing live...and it was just announced that he'll be joining an incredibly impressive roster of fellow icons for an unforgettable night of live tunes in 2026, and it's all for a very good cause.
Along with E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt, George Thorogood, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and Patty Griffin, Morrison will be playing the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund’s 2026 concert to benefit Grammy-winning blues legend Taj Mahal on February 21 in San Francisco at Masonic Auditorium. Mahal, 83, will also be performing.
According to an Instagram post from the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, Jim Lauderdale, Will Hoge, Joe Henry, Ruby Amanfu, and Bobby Rush will also be appearing, along with "surprise guests and more performers to be announced soon."
“Thrilled to be honored by Sweet Relief and to celebrate with good feeling music,” Mahal said in a statement shared with American Songwriter. “Thank you Sweet Relief for all that you do and for bringing us together.”
What is Sweet Relief Musicians Fund?
As the organization's website explains, Sweet Relief Musicians Fund "provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians and music industry workers who are struggling to make ends meet while facing physical or mental health issues, disability, or age-related problems."
“What an incredible way to celebrate 32 years of Sweet Relief, by honoring the legendary Taj Mahal!" Sweet Relief Musicians Fund executive director Aric Steinberg said in a statement, adding, "This celebration is long overdue for such an acclaimed artist, and we are so grateful that he’s allowing us to bring these amazing artists together to bring the house down on February 21st. This will be a special show indeed, and is also a critical fundraiser for our music community in need of emergency financial assistance for physical or mental health care.”
Tickets and VIP packages for the show will be going on sale on Friday, December 19.
