Distance swimmer Grant Pier has announced his commitment to continue his swimming career at the University of Arizona beginning in the fall of 2026. Pier trains with the University of Denver Hilltoppers in Denver, Colorado, and also competes for Cherry Creek High School.
“I am super hyped to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Arizona. I would like to thank my family for always being there for me. Coach Shawn and the rest of the DU coaching staff for helping me reach this point in my swimming career. Lastly, I want to thank Coach Ben, Coach Pete, Coach Jay and the rest of the coaching staff for this amazing opportunity. Bear down!”
Pier was a 2025 CHSAA Boys 5A State Championship (SCY) finalist representing Cherry Creek, finishing 4th in the 500 free (4:34.92) and 6th in the 200 free (1:41.14) as a junior.
Pier recently posted lifetime bests at the Speedo Winter Junior Championship – West (SCY), including the 200 free (1:38.71), 500 free (4:28.18), 1000 free (9:11.87), and 1650 free (15:27.77).
Over the summer, Pier set a trio of long course best times at Junior Nationals, doing so in the 400 free (4:02.30), 800 free (8:22.95), and 1500 free (15:57.71).

Pier has the potential to make an immediate impact on Arizona’s distance group upon his arrival. Both his 1000 free and 1650 free times would have ranked as the second-fastest on the team last year.
Pier will head to campus alongside Nazar Zoukovski, Cole Faut, Vito Sgroi, Lucas Morin, and Will Harrison. Sgroi holds a 500 free time of 4:32.25.
