ROCHESTER, N.Y. — New regulations are set to change how dispensaries like The Good Life Collective on Monroe Avenue can advertise in New York.
A significant regulation is the ban on billboard advertising for dispensaries, which will take effect at the end of February. Additionally, dispensaries will no longer be able to advertise on vehicles.
Dispensaries will be allowed to have an unlimited number of exterior signs on their stores. However, new rules aim to reduce appeal to those under 21 by banning commercial mascots, bright neon colors, cartoon-like fonts, and similarities to products marketed toward kids, such as candy or soda.
Rewards programs similar to those from Starbucks or McDonald’s will be introduced. However, dispensaries cannot advertise giveaways of free products, except after a retail purchase.
The new packaging regulations will take effect in six months, while all other changes are effective immediately.
