GENEVA, N.Y. — The Ontario County Humane Society says two dogs and ten cats were seized from an apartment in Geneva after an animal cruelty complaint.
The humane society says on Dec. 12, two people installing a utility at an apartment claim they saw the owner hit his dog multiple times. The people claim they also saw “unsanitary conditions” and noted an “unbearable odor,” the humane society says.
Just before 11 a.m., the humane society, Geneva Police Department, and Ontario County Sheriff’s Office responded to the complaint on Main Street in Geneva.
During the investigation, authorities seized a Pitbull, Rottweiler, and ten cats from the apartment, according to the humane society. The Geneva City Code Enforcement office was contacted and identified several code violations.
The seized animals were brought to the Ontario County Humane Society shelter for evaluation by the shelter’s veterinary technician and veterinarian. According to the humane society, initial assessments revealed both dogs and the cats had parasites, and some cats were underweight and had ear infections.
The humane society says all animals are getting ongoing medical attention as needed.
