A woman was found dead following a disturbance near a popular northwest suburban town square early Tuesday morning, sparking a heavy police presence and investigation in the area.
Schaumburg police said officers were called just before 5:30 a.m. for an “unknown disturbance” in the 100 block of South Roselle Road, near the town square center, which is home to a number of popular restaurants, businesses, a library, a park and more.
Once there, officers discovered a deceased woman, police said. A man at the scene was taken into custody for investigation, but no charges had been filed as of later Tuesday morning.
“The preliminary investigation indicates this was a domestic related incident and the two persons are known to each other,” police said in an alert issued at 9 a.m. Tuesday. “This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.”
Police warned of a large presence as they continued their “active investigation” and urged drivers to take alternate routes to avoid the area near Roselle and Schaumburg Roads, both of which are main roadways in the suburb.
It was not immediately known how long the investigation would continue. No updates had been issued as of 10:30 a.m.
